Russian scientists are. On a secret farm outside Moscow, scientists are raising genetically modified goats to produce goat milk with the human milk protein, lactoferrin.

They say their work will provide milk for babies when their mothers can't and will lead to the development of medicines containing the antibiotic qualities of lactoferrin. Read more...

It may sound like science fiction, but here's what Canadian scientists are already doing with spiders and goats. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I was not able to view the video, as it is says it is no longer available. I did get the intro about what the video is about. I think it could be like GMO food...some good, some bad. I think there should be more attention on creating more milk banks in the US so that babies can have HUMAN breastmilk. And why not use breastmilk to develope medicines? Just as formula does not have the same nutritional value as breastmilk, I doubt goat milk will, either.

I live on Maui, and have over a 100 oz of frozen breastmilk in the freezer, since my 3 month old now refuses a bottle. I hate to think of it going to waste, and would gladly pump for other mothers to be able to have "human breast milk" instead of formula, but there are no resources here...yet. I think this is where some attention and money should be spent. I don't think I'm the only mother who would gladly pump and donate milk to those who need it!!

Well, at least the silk they are making from goats milk is only 1/10 the strength of the original spider-made stuff! Human breastmilk will ALWAYS win. 1/10 will not be good enough! Maybe better than cowsmilk formula, but not as good as the boobies!

I think human breast milk is a way better investment. I would gladly become a wet nurse for most likely hundreds of thousands less than what they are spending on this research.

If there are diseases that need that special protein you talk about in the intro, then I hope they do find something fast. But according to "The China Study" we should pay more attention to the foods we consume, and less on the medicine.
