Beginning Breastfeeding...the first 7 days

Let us help you get breastfeeding off to a great start. You want to make an abundance of milk and you want your baby to gain robustly. Here is a great way to make that happen.

  • Learn your baby's feeding cues.
  • Snuggle with your unswaddled baby skin to skin.
  • Give only your milk to your baby.
  • Your golden colostrum, though just drops, is all your baby needs in the first two days.
  • Newborn babies are used to eating constantly, expect baby to eat very frequently.
  • Expect your milk to "come in" or your breasts to start filling up by the end os the 3rd day.
  • Avoid swaddling- it interferes with your baby's feeding cues.
  • Talk to a breastfeeding expert everyday until breastfeeding is as easy as kissing.
